Year Five

I am Mr Hayes and I am the class teacher for Mayfield’s wonderful Year 5 class! The fabulous Year 5’s are also joined by Miss Wild and Miss Sweeney who will deliver quality interventions for children on Tuesday’s and Friday’s.

Each half-term children in Year 5 enquire about different big questions that underpin their learning for the upcoming weeks. This ranges from ‘Where does Chocolate come from?’, ‘Can you make a moon buggy?’, ‘Space’ and ‘Who were the Anglo Saxons?”

English covers a wide variety of high-quality texts for children to read, analyse and produce pieces of creative writing, based on the book’s theme. Children will be taught the skills to write persuasive newspaper articles, in-depth character descriptions, mysterious short stories and first-person diaries of climbing Mount Everest. Year 5 Maths builds on key skills and previous years knowledge, delving into the major four operations as well as Fractions, Decimals and Geometry.
