Message from the Headteacher

Welcome to Mayfield Primary School – a school truly in the heart of our community that we are all exceptionally proud to be part of.

Mayfield Primary School has been a key part of our community for 70 years and it is so important to us that we continue to build on our history and our legacy, and provide a school of choice in our local community and beyond.

Our school had a wonderful £3.3m expansion in 2021, to convert Mayfield into a two-form entry school, providing much needed additional places in the local area. Our aim is to ensure more children in the area are able to access high-quality education and provision, and provide more choice for parents / carers.

Children have one chance and we are determined to get that right for every child. We believe in having quality and excellence everywhere and in everything we do and that we must never be in a position where any of us write the story for our children before they have lived it. We do not know what any of our children are capable of going on to achieve. Our expectation is that we work together with our partners to make sure that every child goes on to become the very best they can be and are meant to be.

Mayfield Primary School chose to join the Cranmer Education Trust and on 1st January 2016 converted to an academy. We are proud to be part of Cranmer’s family of schools and our growing much wider organisation, along with The Blue Coat School in Oldham, East Crompton St George’s Primary School in Oldham, St Anne’s Church of England Academy in Middleton and The Brian Clarke Academy in Oldham. Our trust also includes the Cranmer Institute, Manchester Nexus SCITT and the East Manchester Teaching School Hub. Cranmer is an expanding school trust in the Greater Manchester Area and together we achieve far more than we could individually. As an organisation, we want the best. We know that families want the best. We know that our pupils and students deserve the best. We are one family, one trust.

At Mayfield, we cater for pupils aged 3 to 11. We deliver a rich and ambitious curriculum with experienced staff trained to a high level. During their time with us, children will:

  • build up a deep body of knowledge in a range of subjects across our well-planned and carefully sequenced curriculum,
  • gain language, mathematical, scientific, creative, physical and technological skills, whilst building confidence, independence, resilience and a strong work ethic, and
  • learn to make informed choices and decisions, articulate feelings and ideas, ask questions, challenge others, debate and understand what it means to be a really good citizen.

Our aim is to produce strong, confident and independent learners and young people, with exceptional behaviour and positive attitude to learning that our school community, and beyond, can be proud of.

We attach great importance to the development of the children’s social and emotional skills and seek to enable them to build strong relationships with other children and adults, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others and learn self-discipline. We aim to provide a wide range of opportunities and experiences that will greatly benefit all children through our work on ‘Mayfield Magic Moments’.

We aim to nurture a caring school with both adults and pupils supporting each other and the values of the school and our Trust. We provide high-quality pastoral and SEND support to our pupils and families, to ensure that pupils are able to participate and succeed at school.

We want our pupils to enjoy school and do well and there are many opportunities for children and young people to shine at Mayfield. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and talents, and a wide range of achievements are proactively celebrated. Pupils of all abilities and different needs are supported during learning to help them achieve their full potential.

Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour at Mayfield, with strong support from our school staff. We have high expectations for pupils, and of parents / carers, just as parents and carers, rightly, have high expectations of Mayfield and our trust. We are committed to achieving excellent standards of attendance, punctuality and behaviour at Mayfield. We are committed to equality as a Trust and as a school, and do our utmost to meet the needs of everyone within our school community.

We feel that parental involvement is crucial and we provide regular opportunities to keep parents / carers informed about the ways in which we are working and progressing with our children. We recognise that together we make a difference.

To find out more, please contact the main school office if you would like to pay us a visit. It is only by talking to us and seeing for yourself, that you will find out what our school is all about. We look forward to meeting you.

Kind regards,

Mr Couper-Barton

Headteacher
