Homework

Homework at Mayfield is seen as a great opportunity for children to learn with the support of their families. Regular homework is provided for every child. In September we made changes to the way we deliver homework, in response to ideas from our children and parents.

In September we purchased new home learning books in Maths and English for all our children in Years 1 to 6. This learning focuses mainly on reading comprehension in English and fluency facts in maths. The response to our new approach to homework, from the children, families and staff, has been very positive. Activities go home on Friday and are returned by Wednesday for marking and further discussion.

In the holidays we offer different homework challenges, that are based much more around our creative curriculum.

We are so proud that families are learning together.

Our children are so proud of their homework books and are able to recognise and discuss the progress they are making.

We encourage everybody to read daily and have a special "Reading Challenge" running throughout school.

Weekly spellings are also part of the learning process at Mayfield, where children are encouraged to understand spelling rules, as well as learn a set of spellings, which they are then expected to apply in their writing.
