Welcome to

Reception Class.

We enjoy being in the Reception Class.

We have lots of FUN!!

Dear parents,

Welcome to the Reception Class and we hope you enjoyed the summer with your children. The children have settled well and all seem happy and enjoying their new class. As the children start Reception our main aims are to ensure the children settle well, to introduce them to the Reception areas, the equipment that is available to them and show them how to use it appropriately.

Our topics this term are Journeys and Seasonal Activities . These are some of the things your children will be learning in Reception this term.

Personal & Social Development

•  To work as part of a group and class, learning to share and take turns.
•  To think and talk about our families.
•  To visit local places and find out about them.
•  Later this term we will start Dinosaur school in the Reception Class. This proves to be a big hit with the children and is designed to help them develop their social skills and deal with problems. I'm sure you will be hearing a lot about Dina and Wally.

Language work
•  To develop our listening skills using lots of activities.
•  To be able to speak clearly and confidently.
•  To extend our vocabulary with topic related words.
•  To learn our letter sounds at the beginning of words and start to blend them together.
•  We will learn how to form the letters in our names correctly.
•  We will read a variety of stories, rhymes and poems.
•  To begin to learn the characters from Oxford Reading Tree and learn to read their names.

Maths work

•  To learn how to say and use the number names in order in familiar situations.
•  To count to 10 (and beyond as appropriate) and be able to find some numbers.
•  To learn the language of size.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World

•  To look at different kinds of transport, ways of travelling and transport in the past and present.

•  To talk and write about journeys we have made.

•  To investigate objects and materials using all their senses.

•  To build and construct using a wide range of objects.

•  To become familiar with everyday technology and use I.C.T. to help them in their learning.

Creative work

•  To observe carefully and record our observations in different media.
•  To play imaginatively in our role play areas.
•  To enjoy joining in with singing and musical activities.
•  To be able to handle tools and equipment safely.

Physical

•  To move confidently and safely.
•  To show an awareness of space.
•  To recognise the importance of keeping healthy.

We have a busy term ahead and we have planned an exciting curriculum for the children. We are also looking forward to moving to our fabulous new Foundation Stage Unit when it is completed. This will be very exciting!

We will begin our weekly games morning after the children have settled properly and we will let you know when this will start.

We will not have a specific P.E. session in the hall so the children do not need a P.E. kit. The children have access to the outdoor play area a number of times during the day so are getting plenty of exercise.

Thank you to all parents who have paid our £1 weekly snack money, 30p milk money and sent a box of tissues and pump soap dispensers.

As always if you have any concerns please feel free to come and talk to us.

Thank you for your support
