Holidays
The school holiday list is included at the back of this prospectus. If parents’ Annual Holiday has to be taken in term time children may request up to two weeks leave of absence from school. A form is available from the school office and must be filled in before the holiday.

School Meals
A cooked meal is available, and at present costs £1.45 per day. School works closely with the schools meals service in order to ensure that dinners are healthy. A menu is placed on parent noticeboards. We ask that children in nursery and reception have a school dinner, as this is easier than coping with a sandwich box and containers in the early years and also develops the social skills of younger pupils. Dinner money for the week is collected on Monday mornings. This should be sent in a sealed envelope with the child’s name and class on it, cheques can be sent made payable to Oldham MBC. If you feel your child is entitled to free school meals please contact:

One Stop Shop, Level 4, Civic Centre Oldham 0161 222 6688.

Arrangements can be made for children to bring a packed lunch and we ask that parents consider healthy foods for lunchboxes – we have produced our own healthy lunchbox recipe book . If a drink is included, it must be in an unbreakable container and must not be a fizzy drink. If a child wants to change from school dinners to a packed lunch or vice versa this should be done at the beginning of a new half term, and a letter sent from the parent or guardian to this effect. Children who eat their midday meal at school are not allowed to leave the premises.

Jewellery
The school cannot be held responsible for any items of jewellery or other valuables which may get lost or damaged in school. We do not allow earrings, necklaces or other items of jewellery to be worn in school, except for watches and small stud earrings. In the interests of safety, all jewellery must be removed for P.E. and swimming lessons.

Mobile Phones
Children are not allowed to have mobile phones in school - they must be left at home.

Medicines
We need to be made aware of any medical condition your child may have - or special circumstances. Parents of children requiring regular prescribed medication need to complete a school authorisation proforma so that school can dispense medicines, Children needing inhalers for asthma may keep them in the classrooms. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure medication is up to date.

Charging Policy
The underlying principle of state education is that it should be free of charge. Wherever possible we support our school curriculum with school visits and specialist visitors who come into school. Obviously this costs money and we do ask parents to make contributions. No child will be excluded from activities, however, if we do not receive sufficient donations the activities may have to be cancelled. Parents may pay in instalments.

Extra Curricular
We offer a range of extra curricular activities including: football – girls and boys, art club, aerobics – parents and pupils, a board games club, a writing study club, an ‘early birds’ computer club, lunchtime computers, and a ‘green team’ that supports our Eco School status.

As a partner primary school with Blue Coat C.E. Comprehensive school we are involved in many ‘enrichment’ activities alongside secondary pupils. Currently a secondary maths teacher is delivering a fortnightly maths lesson to Year 6.

Each year a number of children in Years 5 & 6 are involved in ‘Unity in the Community’. This is gives our pupils chance to take part in a range of sporting activities alongside pupils from other schools.

Several Y6 pupils are given the opportunity to attend ICT – literacy and maths at Laticszone. A ‘Playing for Success’ initiative at Oldham Athletic Football Club.

Our school nurse runs a Bronchial Boogie club, after school, for older asthma sufferers. The Bronchial Boogie club has attracted extensive publicity both locally and nationally – we have been on the T.V. and radio !! We are very proud of our association with this innovative project.

We also have established links with the Groundwork Trust which enables our pupils to become involved with various areas of commerce and industry.

Links with Counthill Secondary School are developed as part of sports activities and opportunities arise throughout the year.

A group of talented Y5 & Y6 pupils currently receive weekly keyboard tuition .
