Fantastic school grounds
Outstanding Mayfield We are proud to be an 'outstanding' primary school and pride ourselves on having great fun at Mayfield. We continue to focus on extending our creative curriculum where we include music, French, drama and sports as weekly activities for many of our pupils, plus lots of other exciting opportunities including a partnership with the 'Royal Exchange Theatre' in Manchester. OFSTED were so pleased with our curriculum that it was graded 'outstanding' both in 2006 & 2009. School Clubs and Sports Our out of school activities are extensive - lunchtime/early morning computers, French, writing, art, board games, gardening, football, early morning multi sports, sewing, eco group, animations and a reading club . A 'Bronchial Boogie' club is run by our school nurse and the music centre - this club helps pupils with asthma . It improves their breathing techniques though the use of exercises and learning to play the flute. Pupils continue to benefit from many sporting activities and our sports coordinator, Mr. Whittaker, is working with Blue Coat Secondary School to identify sporting opportunities. Pupils have had the opportunity to attend dodge ball, cricket, golf, rugby, lacrosse and dance. We have Shaun & Mark from Sports Development who run lunchtime sporting activities and our extended schools P.E. technician (Mark) - who organises 5 hours of sport & games each week . Pupils in the Junior classes go swimming on a rota basis and many of our older pupils have trained as Young Sports Leaders. Our sporting have efforts have enabled us to gain the Active Mark Award. Blue Coat C.E. Secondary School We continue to work with our partner secondary school Blue Coat, which is one of the top performing secondary schools in England. Our children visit Blue Coat to use their facilities, plus, we have had one of their science teachers teaching practical science sessions in our school. We are also linked with Blue Coat for sporting initiatives. Eco School As an ECO school we continue with our recycling efforts - we have a co-mingled recycling bin, cardboard and paper recycling bins and 3 compost bins. We have had Eco Days at our school where all of our pupils take part in eco friendly activities and we are thinking of becoming a 'Fair Trade' School. Our Outdoor Classroom is coming along nicely - the Eco Grant and tree grant from the council has gone towards funding this and our willow tunnel structure is looking great! . The Green Team continue to work hard and our litter officers are 'super litter pickers'. The Eco group has made a vegetable garden and planted more trees in 'Mayfield Woods'. We have been awarded the Bronze Eco Award and the Silver Eco Award. Healthy School We are a healthy school and our children receive fresh fruit at break times. Healthy snacks are encouraged and the school promotes sports and fitness. We are very proud to have gained our Platinum Tooth Award for our healthy school initiatives and the Healthy Schools Standard. We were also thrilled to receive a Pride in Oldham Award from the Oldham Chronicle newspaper. This award was given to school for running a healthy food tuck shop. Toddler Club A Toddler Club meets in our nursery every Thursday 9.30am - 10.30am . Please toddle along with your child and take opportunity to play together. You can put your child's name down for a nursery place when they are 2 years old. They can start part time nursery (mornings) if they are 3 years old before 31st August.
